Everything You Need to Know: Care and Treatment of Your Wooden Play Tower
3. Wood Treatment and Care
Wood is a wonderful natural product, and we are proud to use it in our play towers. We have chosen a type of wood from the cedar family because it is naturally resistant and does not require chemical treatment. However, please be reminded that it is still a natural product - and that's exactly what makes it so special and valuable.
Does the wood of my play tower need to be treated?
It all depends on the look you prefer. If you want to maintain the original, golden-brown color of the wood, you should treat it. This can be done by oiling, applying a stain, or painting it.
If you don't mind the wood developing a natural, gray patina over time, you don't need to treat it. Please note that any wood exposed to the weather will naturally turn gray over the years. This is a natural process and does not affect the stability or safety of your play tower.
I've noticed black spots on my play tower. Could that be mold?
Mold can occur under certain conditions, especially if the wood is constantly exposed to moisture and air circulation is limited. This can vary depending on the region and placement of the play tower. However, black spots on the wood are no cause for concern and can occur with other types of wood as well.
If this happens, simply take a cloth, soak it in a mixture of vinegar and warm water, and wipe over the affected areas. This will remove the mold and keep it away for some time. However, it is important to emphasize that preventing mold can only be fully ensured by painting.
After a few months, the wood of my play tower starts to "fray," meaning there are slight separations of the wood layers. What can I do about it?
Unfortunately, this is inevitable with softer types of wood, like those we use for our play towers, and can only be avoided with more expensive and rarer hardwood types. These slight separations of the individual wood fiber layers can be caused by changing weather conditions such as sun, rain, and temperature fluctuations. But don't worry, this is normal and does not affect the stability of the play tower. If you notice that the wood is "fraying," you can simply remove the loose fibers with some sandpaper. However, if you find that the separations are extreme, please do not hesitate to contact us.
